Our best-selling Music player

It is upsetting to see a person with dementia looking bored or feeling isolated due to inactivity. Music is a wonderful way to assist them in becoming connected and engaged with the things happening around them.

The Simple Music Player was designed specifically with dementia persons in mind. It is extremely easy to use even when a lack of dexterity is an issue. The music begins to play when the lid is lifted and to skip to the next track there is one large button to press. The volume is set by family members or carers and cannot, accidentally, be changed. The songs are selected and downloaded via a USB link from a Windows, Apple or Linux PC, ensuring that the music your loved one most enjoys is what is playing.

  • Volume is set by family or carers through a pencil-point hole and cannot be accidentally changed
  • Capacity of 4GB, nearly 1000 songs
  • Comes with 5 Big Band songs - we recommend loading your own music up for a personal, musical experience.
  • 'Drag and Drop' music from your PC to your Player via USB, no software to install
  • Power requirements: Local mains supply

stylish and extremely easy to use

Mr. James Ashwell, Founder of Unforgettable

Designability, one of our charity partners, created this product, and people with dementia are at the heart of its design. It’s very simple to operate; just lift the lid and the music plays, close it and the music stops (a mechanism which older people might be familiar with from record players). It also allows the person with dementia to retain choice about what they listen to, which I feel is very important. Plus, it comes pre-loaded with some great jazz tunes so it’s easy to use straight away, or you can plug it in and download any music you want. I’m delighted to make this product available to a wide audience. I wish it had been around when I was caring for Mum so she didn’t have to rely on me to choose her music for her!

We bought this for Mum who was 90 this year wish we'd done it earlier. She has mixed dementia and plays it all the time. Loaded all her favourites and a lot more.
Its brightened up her life and its going all day and she gets a lot of visitors from the other residents. Would recommend this a million times over

My family bought this for our mum about a month ago, I wish we had known about it sooner. This "radio" has brought joy back to her life. To see her singing, dancing and even tidying up the kitchen brings a smile to everyone's face and brightens the day. It is not perfect, the volume control is on bottom and if you switch it off at the mains it always goes back to the first song, however solved this issue by putting label on plug telling mum not to switch off. I would also limit the number of songs as there is no way to see what is being played and using the skip button to vary the music is a bit tedious.

I wasn't sure my 90 year old cousin living in a care home with mid-late stage Alzheimer's would be able to use this as she was forgetting what tech/entertainment things were, let alone how to work them, but it seemed worth a try. SO glad I did - she absolutely LOVES it and listens to her music all the time. When we visit her we can tell she's been using it as she breaks into song when away from it - songs we loaded for her. I don't normally get around to doing reviews but this was so brilliant I want to encourage more people to get it. The family decided on around 70 songs we know she always loved - could put more but as she's forgotten what was playing minutes before, just picking her favourites was perfect. As a previous review says, DO put the music through a sound leveller or you'll have to set it either to have some playing too loud, or you'll get some playing too quietly so she can't hear and thinks nothing is playing! She doesn't use the skip button - no concept of what it is/does, and can't always remember how to turn it off (she was talking to it, saying it was time to stop) but as long as she remembers how to turn it on - which she does - a carer can always turn it off when necessary. Best gift ever.

Bought for mother-in-law who is in diagnosis stage - she was struggling with complexity of radio/CD players. She took to this straight away, only had to show her once. She's forgotten about the skip button, but since I chose all the music with her, she doesn't have a need for it. Very easy for me to load music from her CDs, and just had to set the volume once and can now leave it alone. Larger than I expected (although I could've just looked at the spec!) so didn't fit where I was planning, but that's my fault and just something to bear in mind. Quite pricey for something so basic, but good quality, and I guess you pay for the design work, which from the other reviews suits so many people with dementia so successfully. Priceless really for the joy it gives and already recommended to others.

My husband has been absolutely delighted with the ease of use of the Simple Music Player. He had previously become so frustrated at trying to use a player where he had to put each disc in and never could remember which buttons to press to get it going. Now he is very pleased to be able to switch his music on whenever he wants to.

bought this for Dad who has low vision and dementia. He loves it and it has been a life saver. He can just lift the lid for the music to start. However, there are no clear instructions on the machine and i have had to write these on sticky labels for his carers to know how to use it. it is just 3 months old and the feet have come off, the on/off button has fallen off and the extremely tricky to use volume buttons dont work any more. to access the volume buttons on the underside of the machine you have to turn it over and stick a sharp pointy pencil up the volume slots. I am sending it back to the manufacturers to get it repaired. in the meantime i have bought the other Sovereign sonic box (amazon £40.00 inc postage) for him to use. Its not quite so easy for Dad to use and you need the memory stick plugged in all the time

I ordered a simple music player on Monday for my Mum, which arrived on Tuesday!!!! Most impressed!

Mum has macular degeneration in both eyes (registered blind) and she also has dementia. She had been saying that she was very weary and to me seemed really fed up, which is not like her.

I have been loading the player with hymns for her as that is the music she likes and will sing along to. Today I took the player over to her house, and her reaction was priceless!

She's had a radio for 2 years, and has only used it once, and never on her own. She found this player so easy to use and the sound quality is very, very good.

      Thank you so much!!

    • I bought this at Christmas for them and they listen to it every single day

EVERY Single time I speak to my parents they thank me for the wonderful music box. I bought this at Christmas for them and they listen to it every single day and sing along to all the songs. I found some amazing sing-along ones all loaded up, they know how to operate it themselves when the carer isn't there. They hadn't listened to music for years as it was too complicated. The fact I had to choose the music for them was brilliant as I put so much love into the choices> CAREFUL you need to load all the songs on your laptop and then run it through a sound leveler, this software I downloaded for £15, but it means all the songs are now the same level, if you don't do this, then it's a nightmare changing the volume each time - you HAVE to do this. It's very simple so just check the web for the best program I think was Mp3 doctor - anyway, can't recommend this product enough x

I just ordered a second music player for our son so he can have one in his flat, and we can have one at our house. I just wanted to tell you how much he loves it and that he plays it every single day and dances to it.
      Thank you.

My father has just been diagnosed with dementia and deteriorated quite quickly. The music player has made a real difference to his quality of life, as after weeks of struggling to help him use remote controls he can now access his favourite music easily and he is independent for a little longer. He
loves it so much I have just bought another one for his bedroom.
Thank you so much for designing such a lovely quality product.
