Our best-selling Music player

It is upsetting to see a person with dementia looking bored or feeling isolated due to inactivity. Music is a wonderful way to assist them in becoming connected and engaged with the things happening around them.

The Simple Music Player was designed specifically with dementia persons in mind. It is extremely easy to use even when a lack of dexterity is an issue. The music begins to play when the lid is lifted and to skip to the next track there is one large button to press. The volume is set by family members or carers and cannot, accidentally, be changed. The songs are selected and downloaded via a USB link from a Windows, Apple or Linux PC, ensuring that the music your loved one most enjoys is what is playing.

  • Volume is set by family or carers through a pencil-point hole and cannot be accidentally changed
  • Capacity of 4GB, nearly 1000 songs
  • Comes with 5 Big Band songs - we recommend loading your own music up for a personal, musical experience.
  • 'Drag and Drop' music from your PC to your Player via USB, no software to install
  • Power requirements: Local mains supply

stylish and extremely easy to use

Mr. James Ashwell, Founder of Unforgettable

Designability, one of our charity partners, created this product, and people with dementia are at the heart of its design. It’s very simple to operate; just lift the lid and the music plays, close it and the music stops (a mechanism which older people might be familiar with from record players). It also allows the person with dementia to retain choice about what they listen to, which I feel is very important. Plus, it comes pre-loaded with some great jazz tunes so it’s easy to use straight away, or you can plug it in and download any music you want. I’m delighted to make this product available to a wide audience. I wish it had been around when I was caring for Mum so she didn’t have to rely on me to choose her music for her!

I just ordered a second music player for our son so he can have one in his flat, and we can have one at our house. I just wanted to tell you how much he loves it and that he plays it every single day and dances to it.
      Thank you.

My father has just been diagnosed with dementia and deteriorated quite quickly. The music player has made a real difference to his quality of life, as after weeks of struggling to help him use remote controls he can now access his favourite music easily and he is independent for a little longer. He
loves it so much I have just bought another one for his bedroom.
Thank you so much for designing such a lovely quality product.

Very simple to use and gives my mother great joy. It's a lovely, retro red design and came pre-loaded with retro band music. We loaded her favourite music as soon as it arrived and we watched the videos online about how to operate it. Even my tech savvy father is using it.

It would be good if we didn't have to power off from the mains before the PC can recognise the player. It's simple enough to transfer music from PC by drag/drop and a bit tricky transferring with the Mac. These are minor issues though seeing how much my mother is enjoying her music again.

      Would definitely recommend this player.

We bought the Simple Music Player for my wife’s 92 year-old mother, who has macular degeneration (poor eyesight, getting worse), but all her marbles, well, most of them. She loves the player and is telling us so on a daily basis. She’s playing it to death.

The player has effectively two controls; an on/off lid and a skip track button. These she mastered immediately. The volume is set through two pushbuttons in the base, operated with a pencil so mother doesn’t have to worry about this control; she can’t see it to get at it.

The player comes with a six sample tracks, which you can delete if you don’t want them. I’ve loaded about 180 tracks onto the player and there is memory space for a few more, probably another 25 or so. The player is mains powered through a low voltage transformer that’s integral with the mains plug (the sort of thing that you power small electrical devices). If she severs the cable, she’s not going to kill herself. The player will accept all sorts of audio files. i.e. MP3, MPEG4, WMA, WAV, AAC files (not M4P files).

Loading the files is the usual drag and drop method, or copy and paste, that you’d do on your computer. One of the reviewers had trouble loading files; that was operator error I reckon. Follow the instructions (downloaded from the internet) and you won’t go wrong; the sequence is power off, connect USB cable between player and computer, then power on; the player will be recognised.

Once mum lost the ability to work her CD player, she no longer had the music she loved to play and sing along to when she was on her own. Until we found this simple but fantastic music player. Brilliantly designed, and works a treat. Mum loves it and can now enjoy her music again.

It is simple to use. Mum can't turn it up too loud and annoy everyone. But I can't upload mums music as neither my laptop nor my PC even recognises I have plugged something in through the USB slot.

Bought for my disabled daughter and it's so good at home that the adult learning centre she visits asked us to buy them one! Have already recommended to others.

The music player was alright at first but we were a bit disappointed with the music that came on it - it was quite expensive and I'd have been happy to pay it were there a wider and more modern range of music. Also the instructions weren't too clear.
