Mum was a very social person, but she started to miss appointments and muddle up days so one of the first things we bought was a large wall clock which allowed her to maintain her independence for longer. A wide range of clocks are now available, including clocks with the time and date on and time orientation clocks specifically designed for people with dementia. They're all very useful depending on the stage of dementia, and the kind of problems you might be experiencing.

Both my parents have dementia, and they were losing track of the days; it came to a head at Christmas, when although they spent Christmas Day with me they couldn't remember it and so kept thinking Christmas was yet to happen - Dad would think we were joking when we told him the month was January. Since getting the clock / calendar Dad is once more on top of which day of the week it is and is able to track the passage of time. Mum still struggles as she has very poor eyesight, but even she if she stands close to the clock can read the time and the date.

We've got these all over our home, the residents are noticeably calmer with them around and we get a lot less questions about the time.
